I don’t know about you, but I grew up adoring the media. I spent two full years of my life spicing it up with the Spice Girls, I wrote movie scripts before I could even correctly spell the word “the,” and before I could tell time my parents measured the length of car trips in something that I could understand…Barney movies.
As I got older, there was always something so wonderful about running home from school and turning on the TV to have the screen fill up with familiar faces and old friends. They were always there for me. If I had a problem or was having a bad day, it seemed as if the people on the screen were going through the same things I was. For those 30 minutes to an hour, I didn’t feel alone anymore.
So I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that when I grew up, I moved to Hollywood to become an actress. One reason for this was to be a part of an industry that was telling people they weren’t alone. But instead, I found that it was making certain groups of people feel more alone than ever. I’m talking about Christians. More and more it seems like Christian values are not only being left out of the entertainment industry, but ridiculed. Christians now seem to live in a constant state of silence and fear.
But don’t be disheartened, Jesus is alive and well in Hollywood! I have found many Christians on set working as background talent, crew, and actors in leading roles. More and more high-quality Christian films are being made and Christian music now spans every genre from country to rap.
This is why I have started this blog. I want to highlight Christians and Christian media. I plan to write movie reviews, spotlight Christians in the industry, and much more. I know this world can often be a dark place. So I’m going to shine a spotlight on Jesus in Hollywood. And just remember…you are never alone!
